Abby

sanctuary resident since August 2024

Abby has a story of one of the biggest transformations at the sanctuary, while highlighting the importance of sanctuary & rescue work. After receiving an urgent call about a duck who had a limp, we took Abby in and it was quickly learned that not only did she have a limp but her leg was severely broken...and worse, it was an old injury. We have no way of knowing for sure how long she suffered, but vet professionals suspected at least a couple of months. In addition to this injury, she also watched flock members become victim of a predator attack on a pond. Abby's life, quite literally, was saved by finding sanctuary.

Abby could not take more than a few steps when she arrived and was visibly in pain. We immediately got her medical care where she underwent a surgery to fix her badly broken leg. Eight weeks of recovery and being shown love for the first time, Abby regained full use of her leg and made a resilient recovery.  She does have a small limp which was to be expected due to the severity of the injury, but that does not inhibit her in any way. At the sanctuary she found a new family with Rosie, Millie, and Tiny T who was frequently by her side throughout recovery. Abby is an ambassador for ducks everywhere showing their strength & determination, and paving the way for compassion that needs to be shown to their kind.
