Harvey

sanctuary resident since April 2025

Harvey was found sitting on the side of the road after he had been hit bit a car, and also lost his mate to the incident. A kind person saw him and knew of the farmer, who would let the ducks cross the busy road to go to the pond - a traumatic incident that was 100% preventable. Harvey was rescued at that moment, and temporarily fostered by a local rescuer before coming to Free to Be. Harvey sustained injuries from this impact and was unable to bear weight on his left leg & his foot firmly curled inwards. We didn't know what his recovery was going to look like or if he even would, but as a sanctuary with a focus on special needs animals we were going to give him his absolute best chance to try.

After 8-10 long weeks of recovering from a torn ligament, Harvey began to improve! Not only did we see Harvey's foot straighten out to a relaxed and natural position, we also saw him ever so gently begin to touch his foot down to bear weight. This was huge! Over the next weeks to he continued to slowly show more progress and bear more & more weight to where he is now, pivoting off his leg though he does have a likely permanent limp.

Harvey is a shy boy with a very sweet disposition and relaxed energy. He loves exploring and foraging, and his preferred veggie intake is mother nature's fresh green grass. When Harvey and Daisy were introduced, they quickly took to one another and have been happily spending their days together since.
